Mimic Octopus

  • First discovered in 1990

Rather than relying on camoflage which would make it blend in with the seafloor, mimic octopuses evade predators by imitating the shape, pattern, and movements of flatfish.

Scientists are not always even sure what it is trying to mimic.  The octopus can mimic the animals / creatures that is around it in order to keep itself safe.
