Student Teachers

Student teacher and Observation Hours Requests:  All student teaching and observation hours request MUST be coordinated directly with the University and our Curriculum Office, requests from students are not accepted. Your professor or University Coordinator can reach out to Diane Castillo directly at castillod@brightonk12.com . At Brighton Area Schools, we believe the best education comes from a variety of unbiased experiences. Therefore, we highly encourage past Brighton students to find observation hours outside the district they attended. Per our policy, no past students will be accepted as student teachers.

Please have your professor or Coordinator provide the following:

  • A ‘rubric’ or detailed requirements for the observation/ student teaching, # of hours, time frame to complete hours, grade level, a rubric, if possible.
  • A copy of your resume to be able to forward to potential mentors.

After we receive the request from the university, we work with the building administrators on locating teaching staff who would be open to having a student in their classroom.  If there is an agreement, a background check is required before the student may report to the building.

Brighton Area Schools reserves the right to "approve" or "deny" any volunteer service upon review of the background check returned. The determination will be based upon individual fitness to have responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of children. Providing false information is grounds for immediate denial.
